GREEN
BEANS
Green Beans is the
KNC eco club. It works on creating awareness and sensitizing the students
about issues concerning the environment and spearhead campaigns to protect
the environment. Green Beans is proud of the fact that it sinds a place
in the United Nations Environment Program. As members of this club,
students also learn the symbolic, spiritual and cultural significance
of each activity. The club organizes seminars, interactive session, the
'Best out of Waste' annual exhibition and creates awareness through workshops,
and street plays. KNC was accepted as a major partner in TERI's Blog initiative
for youth and the participation of KNC members was registered in the Eco
Exhibition by the Environment Ministry.

CREATIVE
WRITING SOCIETY
The English Creative
Writing Society is a platform for the students to give expression
to their creative talent. Students members are encouraged to write in
both prose and verse forms through Inter-class competitions, workshops
and discussions. Eminent poets, authors and journalists are invited for
interactive sessions with students and faculty members of the society.
Mind-Talk, the Inter-College-Creative-Writing Competition as part of the
College-Festival Ullas, is an event that all members look-forward to.
For the coming session the members of the society have chalked out a very
fascinating and interesting programme of an Intimate Dialogue" between
creative writing and other art forms.
Srijan - The Hindi
Creative Writing Society is actively involved in organizing several
literary activities at the Inter-Class and Inter-College levels, including
debates. Well known literary personalities and media persons are invited
to familiarize the student-members with various aspects of literary writings.
Srijan provides ample opportunities to students writing in Hindi to put
their creative spirit on paper. During the academic year 2005-06 the society
plans to conduct a poetry-writing workshop on one of the current burning
issue to encourage students to freely express their views.

WALLPAPER
SOCIETY
This society creates
awareness regarding current national and international issues through
posters, articles, photographs captions etc and relates them to everyday
experiences to make students socially responsible. It is also a forum
for students to expand their cognizance beyond regular academic curriculum
and give rent to their creativity. Students are exposed to thought provoking
issues through the WallPaper and that makes a significant difference
to their outlook and thinking. Each department has a notice board for
a wall paper which is to be done by students of I, II & IIIrd year, term
wise.

FINE
ARTS & DECORATION SOCIETY
This society was
established in the year 2002, it comprises of a team of talented students
besides some faculty members in advisory capacity. This society helps
young minds grow as they traverse the gamut of activities through the
year at the inter -class as well as the inter -college levels. Some of
these include Poster-making (often related to social issues), Card making,
Cartoon making and T-shirt painting besides Rangoli Competitions. The
Fine Arts Society plays a significant role during Ullas and annual day
when they decorate the College brightly. They have an artist's corner
in the new students activity centre where they can splash all the colors
of life.

DANCE
SOCIETY - NUPUR
Dance Society Nupur
comprises - the Indian and Western Dance sub categories. The Society of
Indian Classical and Folk dances exposes students to the rich cultural
heritage of our country in one of the very graceful artistic performing
art form. An annual event is held to search the talent amongst the students
of the College in both categories. This Society together with the Indian
music Society Sur Sadhna encourages students to exchange views
and give joint performances. Nupur is also the inter-college event of
this Society where besides solo performances in the classical category,
the very popular and colourful group dances bring the folk dances of India
to the fore in the College Campus. Workshops in Indian dance forms and
lecture demonstration are on the anvil.
The WESTERN DANCE
Section is comparatively new. The team has been on a winning spree since
the year 2003 when it received great accolades for its performance at
Lady Irwin College, University of Delhi, and won a number of prizes. They
rock with equal efficacy and grace to a variety of Indian and western
numbers. Choreography is surely their forte.

MUSIC
SOCITIES
The INDIAN MUSIC
SOCIETY has been in existence since the inception of the College.
Aptly called Sur Sadhana, this Society brings life to all aspects
of college life. Be it a celebration, an inauguration, a competition or
the annual college-day function, members of Sur-Sadhna keep alive the
traditional forms of Indian music namely the classical Hindustani, Semi-Classical
like Thumri, Dadra, Kajri etc, Light -Classical Bhajans, Ghazals and Geet
and of course the folk songs from all corners of the country. Pop music
is never far behind. Student members participate in many inter-college
competitions and have been appreciated for their performance and talent
several times.
The WESTERN MUSIC
a popular society comprises of a talented band of eleven students. Even
though the emphasis is on singing most members play various instruments.
The team is comfortable with a range of numbers from Beatles to Celine
Dion and even Dido. They have won a number of prizes at various inter-college
competitions. They remain active with their practice and activities like
talent hunt and inter college contests brimming with talent and enthusiasm,
they echo their sentiments through music. From time to time interactions
with established singers helps them to enhance their performance and absorbs
the syntax of western music.

LAKSHYA
The DRAMATIC Society
needs no introduction. It is known in Delhi University circles for pioneering
street-theatre in colleges. The group has been specially invited by academic
institution like AIIMS, DAIICT, JNU to perform at their festivals. From
scripting to conceptualization the 25-member group does it all with great
alacrity, efficiency and finer taking care of all technical aspects. The
team has won many accolades in various competitions in as well as outside
the city. Lakshya, through its street play performances has been very
successful in influencing young impressionable minds by bringing fore
many social evils that plague the society. The stage performances both
in English and Hindi are not far behind because of the state of the art
auditorium, which KNC can boast of.

DEBATING
SOCIETY
The debating Society
of KNC provides a forum for developing public speaking and debating skills
among the students Debates are held in both English and Hindi. There is
an enthusiastic response from students of all the three years and many
of the post-graduate students also join in from time to time. Their skills
are manifested in the recognition and prizes they have won during various
inter-college festivals. Debates in Hindi & English are a significant
event at the annual college festival Ullas.

WIDE
ANGLE - FILM SOCIETY
The Wide Angle
film Society was formed by a small group of film enthusiasts of KNC
in 2005 and was inaugurated by noted film personality Ms.Nandita Das.
The Society aims to promote creativity, imagination and build social awareness
among the students through quality films. It organizes weekly screening
of films in a variety of genres, followed by lively discussions. Occasionally
special guests (directors/film personalities) are invited. In the coming
session the Society plans to organize workshops, film festivals and other
activities apart from the regular screenings.

THE
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The Alumni Association
of KNC called Smriti comprises of a committed group of faculty
members as well as members from amongst the non-teaching staff who themselves
were part of KNC as students. A unique feature of the association is that
retired faculty members of the College are special invitees on the annual
felicitation day when fresh graduates receive their University degrees
and other alumni members are guests for the day. A stage show is organized
on this occasion and former students and staff members join the present
faculty to take a journey down nostalgia lane. Together they plan and
discuss activities for the coming year so that the Association grows with
each passing day.

THE
COUNSELING CENTER
The counseling center of KNC comprises expert faculty members of the Psychology Department
. The center attempts to help students to convert their weakness into
potential area thereby increasing their productivity and leading stress
free balanced lives especially in the present hectic scenario of the 21st
century. Students are free to approach the counselors with their individual
problems for rational solutions.

WDC
- WOMEN'S DEVELOPMENT CENTER
Since the inception
of W.D.C. in the College, it has made significant contributions
to the cause of women. Kamala Nehru College stand for the empowerment
of today's woman and continuous to exercise a strong influence on the
personal, social cultural and economic upliftment of the life of the modern
Indian woman. The W.D.C. aims at infusing positive energy in generations
to come and taking affirmative action towards making each of us independent
and capable of living life on our own terms. The Centre builds, promotes
and facilitates sensitivity towards a woman's rights at every level besides
organizing workshop around themes of changing gender rules, sexual harassment,
assertiveness training and emerging patterns of identity. A monthly service
of academic seminars and talks for increasing on various issues and a
project focusing on old age and Indian women are planned for the coming
session.
